Wow, it would have been great if you had set this up as a poll. I'd be interested to see the results!

I think tattoos are nearly always trashy (or scary) looking on anyone except maybe a sailor older than 40. I know, once you get to know a person they become less important--but they are a serious handicap to that important first impression.

I think they can be a real problem in a job interview.

And really, think about it. Fashion changes quickly, and it's like a lifetime commitment to possibly short-lived fashion trend.

some tattoos are cool, but some who put too much tattoo in their body looks trashy.

And to say they are socially acceptable I believe in a sweeping generality.. Perhaps in some sectors of our society they are, but not "as a whole". I think young people should think long and hard before having one done that is visible all the time... some employers really frown upon visible ink.

Again, it’s cute when you are young but then as you get older I think it can look bad. So I guess I'm just not a fan of the random/excessive/meaningless tattoos.

theyd go all wrinkley when your old, ick lol, but if its a tiny one like on your ankle or hip then its kl, but when a girl wheres a dress and has some socking gr8 tatoo it just looks really masculine and ruins it...

Hills, I have a friend named Robin who thought the same. She claimed to have contemplated getting a robin-bird done just over her left breast, but was afraid it would evolve into a buzzard with age!

A little one here and there that does not get in the way of your career aspirations etc., would be fine....I would love to do a little palmtree somewhere......

I think if it's too much than yes it doesn't look very appealing, now on the other hand since I do have 4 which are and are "not" visable in the working environment than that's my perogative! I do love body art and for those who don't...just keep it to yourself. Everyone is entitled to have what they like whether on their body or whatever. So yes me I like tats>>>but like I said as long as it's not overdone:oD

I have multiple tattoos and everyone has a meaning that isn't going to fade. For instance, I have a pink ribbon on the inside of my left ankle. That's for my grandmother who passed away. I didn't get it because it was trendy. I only have one really visible tattoo. It's on my left wrist and can be easily covered with a watch, but I don't really like watches so it's never covered. I though about the job factor before getting it and realized if an employer doesn't hire me because of my tattoos I'm probably wouldn't enjoy the job anyways. That's just my opinion. For me tattoos are an investment in a piece of artwork that I can carry everywhere I go. And when I'm old and wrinkly I don't think my tattoos would be exposed anyways. It's not like I'll be 70 and still wearing minis and tube tops.

I had to comment on this topic. I have a tat. I had wanted one for, literally, years and gave it much thought. I was 30 years old before I had it done, and I do not regret it at all. I worked with the artist to design it, so it is one-of-a-kind, and it's located inside my left ankle. Some people do regret them later, but they are often the ones who rush into getting the tattoo in the first place.
