No confidence to look people in the eye?

Sun, 11/02/2008 - 3:18AM by VirginSin 6 Comments - 72 Views

Thought this was rare but after much observation I realized many people have this problem. What's with them, why do they seem to portray this lack of confidence? Here's my own explanation.

When you are walking down a street, you would have this thought that everyone or at least a handful of people are looking at you. Being human, we are very much self conscious and these people with rather low self esteem seem to react uncomfortably to it. This applies too when talking face to face with a person whom you are not very close with. Am I right? Here's my suggestion.

Why not try for once to look at a person in the eyes, start with someone whom are comfortable with and maybe it will help.

Thanks For Coming, Now Leave: Top Tips to Get Guests to Go Home Already

Tue, 10/21/2008 - 2:14AM by VirginSin 4 Comments - 52 Views

You've thrown the most wonderful dinner party, enjoyed some good food and great laughter, and now the clock is ticking toward midnight and your flannel PJs and cozy down comforter are calling your name. So, how do you graciously -- and gracefully -- get rid of those guests who seem to be lingering for just one more nightcap or cup of joe?

Enlist a pal to lead the exodus: Recruit a close friend among the guests and have him or her instigate a group departure (an after-party nightcap at the bar down the street, perhaps?).

Do dishes: If you haven't already cleaned up, start doing it. If you feel a bit rude, you can politely say, "I hope you don't mind if I clean up a bit while we're talking." Most people understand that facing a mountain of dirty dishes at the end of a long night is no fun.

Drop a hint: Try some subtle cues like turning off the music or blowing out candles.

Play barkeep: Tell everyone it's "last call!" at the bar.

Bribe them: If you have goody bags or favors, start handing them out.

Yawn: If all else fails, let out a light yawn, laugh, and say something like, "Oh, I guess that glass of wine made me a bit sleepy."

Send your other half to bed: Enlist your spouse to make polite apologies to the group and say that he or she has an early morning the next day and therefore has to hit the hay.

Taking tan lines to a whole new level

Mon, 09/22/2008 - 11:43PM by VirginSin 3 Comments - 153 Views

Sun worshipping and tattoos don't exactly go together like Joel and Ethan Coen, namely because sun damage will fade that ink faster than you can say "Looney Tunes." But hold the phone! Designer Yu-Chiao Wan just came up with a way for the two to peacefully co-exist:

"Inspired by the Moldy Body Object, Sun Tattoos is a soft stencil which can be used for making the tattoo pattern on the skin by sunshine. It's better to use it with sunless tanning cream." --Found Sh*t

Um, unclear what the "Moldy Body Object" is, but if it renders such brilliance then it must be something special. As stupid as this is, I could actually see myself being slightly interested in getting this done. If I was still 12. Huh. (Why does this novelty somehow remind me of Swarovski crystal contact lenses?)

The friend-in-law

Some things to remember when it comes to dealing with your friend’s friend

If you like her
Ask your friend to bring her along to a party you’re throwing. In a social setting, you can talk to her one-on-one without seeming as if you’re trying to “steal” her away. Want to catch a movie with this friend-in-law? Ask your friend to organize the outing so she’ll feel included and like she’s played a role in developing this new friendship. Of course, making a new chum doesn’t mean you need to lose an old one. If you and your friend hit Mango sales together, don’t violate the tradition by shopping with your new friend.

If you hate her
Respect the fact that your friend has the right to make other friends. If you dislike your friend-in-law’s character (she’s a snob) or because she treats you coldly, tell your friend that she doesn’t have to include you in her outings with that friend of hers. If you have no choice about bumping into her, like for a can’t-miss anything event like a birthday party or a wedding reception, just be gracious. You don’t have to talk to the girl. If she does speak to you, be civil and talk to her like you would any other guests.

Recycling tips for your house décor

Art on the wall
Give your bolster cases and old funky fabrics a new lease of life by stretching them across Styrofoam pieces like a canvass. Mount them as ready-to-hang artworks to jazz up your walls.

Key holder/watch and cap holders
Stick your used milk cans onto the surface of the walls, with the removed end facing up, or use a masking tape to fasten old CDs as key holder lids. You can also use these wall holders to store watches and hang your caps.

Tea-light holders
Stack two used milk cans on top of each other and secures them in position by jamming one hard into the grooves of the other can. Fasten an old CD onto the top of the structure to seat your tea lights. Decorate your home-made holder with tassels salvaged from old lampshades or clothes.

Bags
Grown out of your tops? Cut up your unwanted but still oh-so-fashionable tube-tops and turn them into arresting one-of-a-kind tote bags.

Photo frames
Instead of buying new ones, why not re-decorate them? Wrap the frame with used aluminum foil and old bubble-wrap for that space-age look

Storage boxes
That old mini-fridge can be recycled as a bedside medical cabinet for those handy bottles of powder and ointments.

feeling down..

Wed, 06/25/2008 - 5:38AM by VirginSin 4 Comments - 55 Views

I’ve been feeling down lately. People tell me that in time I will get over it, things will turn out, and that this is only temporary. I still feel really lonely and empty -- is it normal to keep feeling this way?

I’ve tried going out with friends, in fact, and what it's merely doing is that it distracts me, but it doesn't resolve any issues.
What do you think should I do? I don't want to take any anti-depressants because I know their side effects. I don't want to kill myself, but there are times when I no longer feel like I deserve to be in this world, I feel like I have nothing to look forward to in life anymore. ... -sigh-
